Kua Bay Training Time Trial - Saturday, March 13, 2021
  • Webscorer results page
  • In-person participants
  • Virtual participants (for the 'make-up' event due to stormy conditions on March 13th)WEATHER, WEATHER AND MORE WEATHER

Torrential Rains on Saturday, March 13th and a Strong Tail Wind on March 18th determined the outcome of both the regular/in-person and virtual/make-up Kua Bay TTT

THE REGULAR KUA BAY TTT RESULTS
  • David Wild won the Regular Kua Bay TTT in the great time, considering the conditions, of 29:08, averaging 24.96 MPH.
  • Peter Buehlow came in second in 32:06, while Toby Onley was third, 30 seconds after Peter.
  • Jeff Lassle (33:48) finsihed in 4th place and Todd Marohnic came in 5th (33:54).
  • Tina Eakin (34:05) finsihed 6th overall.  She was the 1st woman.  The next three women finishers were:  Jessie McCree (36:43), Laura Yamasaki (37:13) and Lynette Noble (38:20).
For the 1st time in a HCC event there was competition in the Track Bike (Fixie) category.  Newcomer, David Collier (37:13) won the division and long time HCC competitor Johnnie Kaihewalu (41:07) finished second. Overall, there were 36 Hammer Heads who finished the race in the worse conditions ever for a HCC event.  Congratulations!  You all have a great story to tell over and over again.

MAKE-UP KUA BAY TTT RESULTS
If there was ever a day to compete in Hawaii Cycling Club’s Virtual Kua Bay Training Time Trial – Make OverThe , Thursday, March 18, 2021 was that day!
  • Rebecca McKee from Anchorage, Alaska gave everything she had and then some, covering the 12.12 mile course in 24:50, averaging 29.28 MPH!
    • Congratulations Rebecca you set the woman’s course record, breaking Kym Kiser’s previous best time of 27:17 accomplished in 2014
    • Rebecca is not a newcomer to the Kua Bay TTT.  In 2019 she was the first woman with a time of 32:59
  • Penn Henderson set the overall course record with a time of 22:4 in 2014.
Was there a tail wind in 2014? Wind or no wind, these records were set by HCC’s top cyclists who trained hard to earn their times.

OTHER KUA BAY MAKE-UP RESULTS
  • Daniel Hill, who won HCC’s Big Island Time Trial Championship in December 2020 and the Prologue Training Time Trial in February, raced on March 17th, finishing in a time of 27:31.
  • None of the following participants in “The Make Up” competed on March 18th and, as we know, conditions change from day to day, hour by hour , minute to minute, making time comparisons difficult.
  • Other cyclists who competed were:  Melissa Schad – 35:24, Franz Weber – 35:48, Bill Culhane – 39:31, Nick Yamasaki – 42:12, Wendy Minor – 46:57 and Tom Solis – 49:10.
