The event that is geared to beginners all the way to the elites!
***Limited to 50 total participants*** Details, Details, Details.... Race Director Kym Kiser explains: “You can enjoy this as a race or a fun ride. For some, it’s going to be all about who can make it to the top of each hill first, and the top men and women will get points on each hill. But we only race the hills, then the fast riders stop and cheer on everyone else until the last rider finishes that climb, before we ride ‘neutral’ together as a group to the bottom of the next hill. Then a whistle sounds and off we go up the hill.” There will be separate waves for men and women, and there are other unique features to this event, according to Kym. “We will not be using a timing system at all. If you’re first to the top you get the most points; second place gets one pointless, and so on. The Dragon Slayer Champions will be the male and female with the most points. So this is all about strategy as well: you might want to go easy on one type of climb, then go hard on a hill that suits you better. But once you reach the top, you cannot pre-ride the next hill; you must remain at the top and cheer on fellow competitors as they climb. This brings all of us together, fast or slow or in-between, it doesn't matter … we are all in this together to Slay the Dragon.” The men and women will have a 60 and over division. The 60 and older men will be in their own separate heat. The 60 and older women will be in the same heat as the 59 and younger women but scored separately. Race-Day Check-in Event check-in is tentatively scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 10, between 6:15 and 6:40 am, at the small scenic overlook park on the northwest corner of the intersection of Kamehameha III and Ali'i Drive, just west of the Keauhou Shopping Center. Do not leave your vehicle in the park; there is ample parking nearby. The neutral ride to the first climb will get started at 7:00. There will be no race-day registration; a waiting list will be maintained in case there are cancellations and those who gain a slot via the waiting list will be informed in advance. |
