SATURDAY RIDE: After all the “Out n Back” competitors started, Peter Stauknedl and John Perea, began riding in a non-timed, non-competitive Fun Ride. THE COURSE started at Ka’iminani Dr. and Queen Ka’ahumanu Hwy. Competitors rode North 13.5 miles to mile marker 80, made a U Turn and returned to the finish line at mile marker 86. For safety at the U Turn, HCC arranged for 2 traffic control officers to direct traffic while HCC members, Rich Bell and Franz Weber were on hand to direct the cyclists and to put out 4 large traffic control signs from Roadway Solutions, 4 HCC traffic control signs and 15 traffic delineators from IRONMAN. Rich said the turn-around looked really amazing and professional. VOLUNTEERS: HCC’s great volunteers for the “Out n Back” were Betsy Solis, Bev Throsen (from Australia), Toni-Romp Friesen (HCC Board member and proud mother of Greta), Mindy Gruber, Steve Butterfield, Evelyn Offenbaker, Rich Bell, Franz Weber, Daniel Hodel and Tom Solis. Oh, and we forgot 1.95 other volunteers: Rani Henderson and her next child took exquisite photos which can be seen on our Facebook page. Thank You All! Traffic Control Officers at the U Turn were Officer Ines and Officer McKay. A special thank you to: Jonas Rullo of Kona Impact for making professional signs HCC used for the Mauna Kea and will be using at future events. The signs clip onto the HCC sandwich boards and can be interchanged as needed. IRONMAN for free use of the traffic cones at the U Turn. Roadway Solutions for special pricing of the 4 signs HCC rented. And a big thank you to HCC’s sponsor’s without which HCC events would not take place – Bike Works, Kiser Motorcycles and Cycle Station.
