Hawaii Cycling Club

Minutes 3-12-05 Monthly Membership Meeting

The delayed March monthly membership meeting was called to order shortly after 09:30AM March 12, 2005 by President Chris Huber.

Present: Grant Miller, Janet Miller, Leonard Peddicord, Bob Schratz, Scotty Scott, Chris Huber, Gary Shields, and Wendy Gaertner.

Gary started meeting with upcoming events, which need volunteers:

Lavaman - April 3rd.   Need volunteers to clean bike route after 3:00PM on Sat and again Sun at 6:00AM. This is a club-sponsored event and would meet requirements for race support.

Cinco de Mayo is coming more info to follow.

Gary also discussed Hilton sponsorship, which led to a lengthy discussion of sponsorship for the new jersey. The issues of design, size of order, and location and size of sponsorship spots were all discussed at length. A committee to pursue these issues was formed consisting of Wendy, Grant and Leonard. They will report back progress at our next meeting. We are down to our last few jerseys with no more large or extra large.

Membership was then discussed. We presently have 69 paid up single and family memberships.

The next item covered was the race support policy. Leonard provided a new race support request form that greatly simplified the procedure. After discussion Bob moved that we adopt the new form and policy. Scotty seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The form can be found in the membership section of the website.

Doug Wilkerson has graciously taken on the task of up-dating the website. Chris and Gary will be his conduit for policy issues. If anyone has any suggestions or request for the website check the members zone on the website.

The concept of weekly gatherings to foster cycling knowledge, a sort of Cycling 101 was discussed. The idea would be evening sessions initially led by Steve Crane. The club would provide refreshments. More to follow on this initiative.

Chris then initiated a discussion of bike safety and how we as a club could be more active and influential in promoting bike safety and awareness. He is soliciting ideas from the membership. It was suggested we promote the PATH organization to our membership. This item will be discussed at the next meeting, so come armed with ideas.

The meeting was then adjourned.
